Abstract

Acoustical structure 10, which can be a panel or cover forming an enclosure, consists of sound barrier layer 11, honeycomb spacer 12 and absorption material 13. Honeycomb spacer 12 provides an air space between 11 and 13 and also increases the rigidity of the composite structure. Spacing 13 further away from 11 has the effect of increasing the thickness of 13. This results in the absorption of lower frequency sounds as shown.
