Abstract

The apparatus is for making optical windows having an accurately controlled thickness. Two transparent plates land 2, having an accumulative thickness less than the thickness of the desired plate, are mounted on flats 3 and 4 by drawing a vacuum within cavities 5. Then a quantity of optical cement 6 is placed on plate 2. Flat 3 is actuated downward until it contacts thickness gauge 7. As plate s 1 and 2 are moved together, cement 6 flows to an even thickness and hardens to form an optical window.
