Abstract

This structure minimizes sense-line noise by removing the word and bit conductors from the sense conductor. The structure is of the type in which elemental magnetizable wits are formed by pairs of thin-film elements 2 and 3. These are positioned on opposite sides of word conductor 4 and in-between bit conductors 5 and 6.

This structure minimizes sense-line noise by removing the word and bit conductors from the sense conductor. The structure is of the type in which elemental magnetizable wits are formed by pairs of thin-film elements 2 and 3. These are positioned on opposite sides of word conductor 4 and in-between bit conductors 5 and 6.

The word and bit conductors are mounted in close proximity to word return and ground plane 7. Sense conductor 8 is positioned remotely from the word and bit conductors and in close proximity to keeper 9.

The separation of sense conductor 8 is such that l>/- 2 l', where l is the length of magnetic film along the easy axis and l' is the distance from the films to keeper
9. This results in good flux coupling to the keeper and thus to sense conductor 8.

The bit field used for writing is confined primarily to the space between bit conductors 5 and 6. The field leaking to sense line 8 from bit conductors 5 and 6 is about the same strength but in an opposite direction, thus cancelling. Coupling of write noise from adjacent bit positions is much smaller due to the dipole nature of the conductors as seen from the sense line. There is no ground plane spreading of bit current since the bit field stays primarily between conductors 5 and 6.
