Abstract

This is a dual-track magnetic recording arrangement with self-clocking and self-error detecting capabilities. A pair of parallel magnetic tracks A and B is provided on a credit card or commutation ticket 2. Each track is adapted to cooperate with separate read-write heads 3 and 4. Zeros are recorded by a transition between tracks. A record can begin with zeros recorded on one track and nothing on the second track. When a one occurs, it is recorded on the second track. Further zeros are recorded on the second track until the occurrence of another one. The latter is then recorded on the first track. In this way the recording is shifted from one track to the other whenever a one occurs.
