Inserting Apparatus

This device is for accurate positioning and inserting of modules in printed circuit boards.

Guiding element 1 is provided with pneumatic actuator 2. Feeding arm 3, rotating around pivot point 4, is biased in a vertical position by spring 5. The extremity of arm 3 is provided with feed head 6. Cam follower 7 is positioned to follow cam 8 which is fixed to vacuum pickup and inserting element 9. The latter is placed between arm 3 and guiding element 1 and is provided with vacuum channels 10. The position of element 9 is vertically adjustable by screw 11.

When modules 12 arrive from a feeding channel, element 9 begins its vertical downward movement. Cam follower 7, cooperating with cam 8 and spring 5, provides a counterclockwise movement to arm 3.

Feed head 6 contacts module 12 and pushes it to the right. Element 9 operates at this time to maintain module 12 above printed circuit 13. When arm 3 completes its movement, module 12 is fully positioned under element 9 which inserts it in printed circuit 13.

At the completion of this action, a control signal is applied to actuator 2 in order to return the various elements to their home positions before the next module is inserted in the next board.
