Abstract

A document is normally fed by rotating a drive shaft 1, which has differential sun gear 2 secured to it for unitary movement, in a clockwise direction as indicated by arrow A. Carrier 3 has external gear teeth which engage spur gear 4. The latter is rigidly connected to knob 5 by shaft 6 with stud 7 on knob 5 normally received in frame aperture 8 to prevent rotation of knob 5, gear 4 and carrier 3.

Manual Document Advance and Restore

A document is normally fed by rotating a drive shaft 1, which has differential sun gear 2 secured to it for unitary movement, in a clockwise direction as indicated by arrow A. Carrier 3 has external gear teeth which engage spur gear
4. The latter is rigidly connected to knob 5 by shaft 6 with stud 7 on knob 5 normally received in frame aperture 8 to prevent rotation of knob 5, gear 4 and carrier 3.

Idler gears 9 and 10 are mounted about pins secured to carrier 3. Gear 2 drives driven gear 11 through gears 9 and 10 to effect rotation of document feed roll 12 which is secured to gear 11 for rotation in unison with it. Feed roll 12 is normally incremented from the position shown, with stud 13 engaging stop 14 in the direction of arrow B.

To advance feed roll 12 for viewing a document driven by it, knob 5 is pulled axially to withdraw stud 7 from aperture 8 and rotated in the direction of arrow C. Shaft 1 is inoperative. Gear 2 remains fixed and carrier 3 is rotated driving feed roll 12 and gear 11 in the direction of arrow B through gears 9 and 10 until stud 13 engages stop 14. To restore feed roll 12 to the position from which the manual viewing is initiated, knob 5 is rotated in the direction opposite arrow C until stud 7 drops into aperture 8.
