Abstract

The vacuum entry system is for moving tape 1 into vacuum compartment 2 for recording data on such tape by radiant or particle beam device 3. The tape on reel 4 is first moved into compartment 5, then rewound on reel 6 while vacuum pump 7 functions to draw the atmosphere from compartment 2. Reel 6 then is moved into compartment 2 for recording. By rewinding the tape in compartment 5, degassing between the tape layers is made easier to reduce the overall entry time into compartment 2.
