Abstract

For deformation recording, a deformable material such as thermoplastic material 1 is formed on cylinder 2 which is rotated about axis 3. A radiant energy beam such as laser beam 4 is passed through modulator 5 for modulating the beam responsive to the information to be recorded. The beam is passed through deflector 6 for scanning around the cylinder surface to heat and cause an appropriate density change on selected parts of material 1. The centrifugal force caused by the rotating cylinder tends to deform the portion softened by heating, which after cooling, indicates the data recorded.
