Abstract

This circuit combines a resistor-capacitor network, which speeds up pickup time in a transistor-controlled electromagnet, with an arc suppression network. In order to permit faster pickup operation at 100% duty cycle, an RC network consisting of resistor 1 and capacitor 2 is used in series with coil 3 and switching transistor 4. Arc suppression network including resistor 5 and diode 6 coupled with resistor 1 causes the flux to decay at a slower rate so as to protect transistor 4 from a surge voltage. The combination circuit provides protection from surge voltage while at the same time speeding up the release of magnet coil 3.
