Core Plane Terminal Forming Die

The drawing shows a portion of forming die 10 for bending terminals 11 of core plane frame 12. Such bending is from a straight position, dotted line B, to alternate up and down positions for connection to adjacent core planes.

Die 10 comprises upper movable jaw 13 and lower stationary jaw 14, having vertical forming teeth 15 and 16 staggered relative to each other. Movable member 18 has a plurality of horizontal teeth 17 located between teeth 15 and cooperating with teeth 16 to bend alternate ones of the terminals downwardly. Similarly, movable member 20 has horizontal teeth 19, located between teeth 16, which cooperate with teeth 15 to bend alternate ones of the terminals upwardly.

In operation, straight, unformed terminals 11 are placed between the open jaws until frame 12 abuts the front of teeth 16. Alternate ones of terminals 11 are placed on teeth 16. Jaw 13 is lowered to abut teeth 15 against the other alternate terminals and thus hold terminals 11 and frame 12. Then, member 18 is first lowered and then raised to form terminals 11 between teeth 16 and 17. Next, member 20 is first raised and then lowered to form the terminals 11 between teeth 15 and 19. Lastly, jaws 13 and 14 are opened and frame 12 with formed terminals 11 is removed.
