Abstract

A set of number wheels 10 is provided to print a number on each document passing through a document handling machine, not shown. The units wheel is advanced under control of a central processing unit, not shown. A check is made to determine that the wheel advances when instructed to do so and does not advance at any other time.

Checking Circuitry

A set of number wheels 10 is provided to print a number on each document passing through a document handling machine, not shown. The units wheel is advanced under control of a central processing unit, not shown. A check is made to determine that the wheel advances when instructed to do so and does not advance at any other time.

Detent pawl 11 is pivoted each time the units wheel advances. In the detented position, one end of 11 is in close proximity to reluctance transducer 12. Pawl 11, when operated, pivots away from 12 and a signal is developed. This signal is applied to the reset input of trigger T1 and to an input of And 13 which also has an input connected to the reset output of T1.

T1 is set whenever the central processing unit calls for an advance of the units wheel. The state of T1 is sampled after the advance occurs. A Sample signal fires single-shot 14. The output of 14 and the set output of T1 are applied to inputs of And 15. The outputs of 13 and 15 are connected to inputs of Or 16, which has its output connected to the set input of latch 17. Whenever 17 is set and check switch 18 is on, a machine stop signal is generated via And 19.
