Abstract

This circuit redundancy achieves greater reliability. Indicator lamp 1, used as an example, is subject to frequent failures and gives rise to excessive maintenance costs. Three lamps 1, 2 and 3, rather than a single lamp, are connected in series between the terminals of a voltage supply. Resistor 4 is connected in parallel with lamp 2. Resistor 5 is connected in parallel with lamp 3. One of the resistors has a significantly higher value of resistance than the other. Initially, lamp 1 is energized while the lamps 2 and 3 are energized at a very low level because of the shunt resistors. If a short type failure occurs in lamp 1, either lamp 2 or 3 which is connected in parallel with the larger resistor is energized. If a short type failure occurs with respect to the latter lamp, the third lamp is energized.
