Abstract

Variable typewriter ribbon feed, by capstan rolls 10, of a mechanism similar to like that shown in U. S. Patent 2, 930,470, is obtained by varying the stroke S of spring clutch drive arm 11 as produced by a cyclically operable power cam mechanism, not shown, through link 12. Control arm 13 positions pivotally-mounted eccentric plate 14 to provide a variable start position limit stop for arm 11. The mechanism is particularly useful in accommodating different ribbons. Such are total release ribbons which do not tolerate overstrike on the same ribbon area and partial release ribbons capable of tolerating overstrike to varying extents.
