Abstract

A variable pulse width generator is provided by selectively shorting a generator transmission line at different spaced points. The circuit is based on the principle that when a pulse is applied to a generator transmission line whose far end is shorted, an out-of-phase reflection returns at a time twice the delay of the transmission line as e.g., on page 302, Pulse and Digital Circuits, Newman and Taub. Use of this effect is made to provide a variable pulse width generator by electronically moving the short along transmission line 2 with a series of semiconductor switches 1 to 1 + n. The latter can be actuated by suitable pulses, as by programming.
