Abstract

An array of zone lenses having a restricted number of zones is made by a photographic reduction process on either a glass plate or quartz plate. This plate serves for multiple-image generation from a single artwork pattern as shown. The resolution of the zone lens depends on the f-number. Each individual lens consists of a series of circular rings with radii proportional to the square root of whole numbers. The zone plate acts as a lens and is used for projection of reduced images in monochromatic light. The image resolution and its field is comparable with that of a single glass lens.
