Laminate Chain Package

This memory is a laminate structure of sheets which contain active chain memory elements. High packing density and stress-free suspension are provided.

In the basic chain section 1, memory elements 2 are suspended at their ends in spring-like parts 3 having an elasticity which limits applied forces to a minimum. Suspenders 3 are supported by tie-bars 4, which provide connection to the salvage 5 which, in turn, can be handled in a solid frame.

Word current is provided through the chain section 1. Word current returns 6 are double-sided and insulated from the chain section 1 by pressure pads 7, as shown in the cross-sectional drawing. Word tabs 8...11 from each chain are staggered with respect to each other, thus providing ease of connection.

Bit current wires 12 pass through each chain element 2, the bit current returns being provided on each side of the chain section. Each chain section is contained in a separate, framed package. Multiple packages are later combined into modules to form the finished array.
