Abstract

A panel of squared, vertical corrugations is painted to minimize or eliminate the appearance of light and dark stripes. In the panel, the width of the front face of each corrugation is the same as the spacing between adjacent front faces. The front faces are coated with a darker paint to reflect less light. The side walls and rear faces are coated with a lighter paint to reflect light and thus reduce the contrast between the front faces and the other surfaces. To further reduce such contrast, both paints are dark. A black paint is used for the darker paint and a charcoal gray paint is used for the lighter paint. Such coatings produce a relatively uniform dark appearance rather than an appearance of vertical stripes of equal width.
