Low Noise Interconnection System for Monolithic Modules

Monolithic modules 10, 12, and 14 can be connected together without significant impedance mismatches by plugging them into a common interface card 16.

Ground planes 18 and signal lines 20 on the modules are terminated in pins 22 and 24 respectively. Ground pins 22 are fixed to metal blocks 26 which are attached to planes 18. Signal line pins 24 pass up through blocks 26 in insulating doughnuts 28 to the top of the modules where they meet the signal lines 20.

Pins 24 and 22 fit into openings 30 in interface card 18 where they contact printed circuit jumpers 32 and 34. If the spacing h of the signal and ground planes is kept constant through modules 10, 12, and 14, pins 22 and 24 and interface card 18 impedance mismatches can be avoided.
