Abstract

Two step-by-step motors are used to achieve rotation of display wheels. Shaft C bears toothed wheels W1... Wn which idle on the shaft. Display characters are moulded on the teeth of wheels W1...Wn. The latter can be driven by internally threaded gear G2, moving along worm screw shaft B. Shaft B is driven by motor MB. Shaft A is driven by motor MA and is provided with a full length key D which allows gear G1 to slide along shaft A. G1 drives G2 which itself drives wheels W1... Wn.

Electromechanical Display

Two step-by-step motors are used to achieve rotation of display wheels. Shaft C bears toothed wheels W1... Wn which idle on the shaft. Display characters are moulded on the teeth of wheels W1...Wn. The latter can be driven by internally threaded gear G2, moving along worm screw shaft B. Shaft B is driven by motor MB. Shaft A is driven by motor MA and is provided with a full length key D which allows gear G1 to slide along shaft A. G1 drives G2 which itself drives wheels W1... Wn.

Gear G1 can move laterally due to brackets F guided by S1 and S2. Assuming gears G1 and G2 are in the position shown, by sending drive pulses to motors MA and MB, gear G2 drives wheel Wn and the rotation angle gives the character to be displayed. Motor MB is used to produce the rotation of screw B which compensates the lateral motion of gear G2.

After positioning the wheel Wn, motor MB is activated and allows gear G2 to move laterally up to the next wheel. As in this motion gear G1 is also moving along shaft A, the character of this wheel can be displayed by activating MA and MB.
