A time-stretched replica R of original pulse P can be produced by sampling the pulse P at different points along delay line 10.

Pulse P is transmitted down delay line 10 and at the same time triggers pulse generator 12. The latter transmits sampling pulse S down a second delay line
14. Pulse S then opens sampling gates 16 in sequence to sample different segments of pulse P on delay line 10 at different times.

The outputs of gates 16 are Ored together and pass through low-pass filter 18 to produce a time-stretched replica R of pulse P. This time-stretched replica R can be observed on an oscilloscope having a bandpass incapable of resolving pulse P.
