Abstract

Ceramic sheets, e. g., ferrite, alumina or the like, are fabricated by a cast sheet process. A plurality of sheets is lined in stacked relation and lightly prepressed before the stack is loaded in an isostatic press. The pressure in the press is raised to approximately 10,000 lbs per square inch. The press equalizes the density throughout the individual sheets, which thus eliminates cracking when and if the pressed member is fired. The pressed ceramic member is slightly reduced in outside dimensions due to the air being removed from the ceramic through closer packing of particles. A final geometry, however, is readily predictable. When the pressed member is fired and opened, inspection reveals no evidence of interfaces among the stacked sheets.
