Print Element With Replaceable Type

The print element has replaceable type. It is adapted for use with a single element typewriter, such as the IBM SELECTRIC typewriter.

The print element comprises socket portion 10 which receives the movable mounting post of the typewriter. Formed in the front of the element is channel 11 which slidingly receives wedge-shaped type slug 12. Slug 12 is maintained in channel 11 by forward ends 13 of generally U-shaped spring member 14 which overlie the upper ends of channel 11. Rear ends 15 of member 14 are received in slots in the typewriter mounting post to maintain the print element in assembled relation with the typewriter. To permit removal of the print element from the typewriter or to allow replacement of slug 12, the operator lifts handle 16 to the position shown. Rotatable camming member 17 separates the forward and rear arms of member 14.
