Abstract

The transcoder converts binary information from a 6 bit code A...F into another 6-bit code A'...F'. The circuits apply floating disk fluid logic elements containing a freely movable disk in a shallow cylindrical chamber with input, control, and output channels. Five decoding matrices with fluid Or's deliver a 1 out of n output signal. This is inverted and amplified in fluid inverter gates. The signal is fed as a 1 out of n signal to a read only memory containing the new code in a pattern of punched holes.

Five decoding matrices with fluid Or's deliver a 1 out of n output signal. This is inverted and amplified in fluid inverter gates. The signal is fed as a 1 out of n signal to a read only memory containing the new code in a pattern of punched holes.

The incoming information is first amplified and synchronized. Such is effected by piston valves, not shown, which also provide the inverted signals A... F. Push pull input signals A, A, B, B, C, C and D, D, E, E, F, F are fed into two branches each consisting of a 2 x 2 and a 2 x 4 Or matrix to produce the 1 out of 8 signal. This is for addressing the final 8 x 8 Or matrix.

Its 1 out of 64 output signal is fed to the corresponding inverters.

These, due to an additional power supply, deliver an amplified 1 out of 64 signal to the 64 position read-only memory for recoding. Which combination of the six output channels A'... F' is activated depends on the code translation stored in a punched card using only 64 columns and 6 rows. Punched holes give the necessary through connections. Unwanted backflow is avoided by inserting 6 x 64 or 384 fluid diodes.
