Double Action Document Conveyor Clip

In many instances, it is desirable to transport different size documents or sheets of paper from a work station into one of several receptacles at a stacking station. Document clips 10 positively grip documents 5 against endless conveyor belts 30 which then carry them, to the stacking station, not shown.

Document clips 10 include pivotally mounted document gripper 11, belt gripper 12, and clip body and belt guide 13. Gripper 11 is spring-biased so that arm 14 is normally urged against the flat side of toothed belt 30. Gripper 12 is spring-biased so that lip 15 is normally urged to engage a tooth 31 or belt 30 and thus hold clip 10 to it. Clip body 13 functions primarily to guide belt 30 when clip 10 is disengaged from it.

Clip 10 is disengaged from belt 30 when clip 10 is either in a storage position or a document receiving position. Pivot cam 40 releases gripper 12 from belt 30 and, in doing so, it engages tab 16 and thus pivots gripper 11 so that arm 14 moves away from belt 30. Pivot cam 40 includes storage pocket 41 for receiving storage tab 17 of gripper 12. Cam 40 is pivoted to release gripper 12 when document 5 is in gripping position.

Document 5 is selectively released while clip 10 still remains engaged with belt 30. A solenoid operated releasing shoe 50 engages arm 18 and pivots gripper 11 clockwise so that arm 14 moves away from belt 30 to release document 5.
