Magnetic Recording Narrow Track Playback Head System

The apparatus is capable of reading narrow, closely spaced tracks of magnetic data by partial cancellation of the detected signals.

Magnetic head 10 reads data over a width W from the desired track and adjacent tracks. The data is delayed in delay circuit 11. Head 12, spaced behind the first by a distance L equivalent to the delay of the first signal, is of width w. This is slightly narrower than that of head 10 so as to read all of the data except the selected track.

The signal from head 12 is then subtracted from the delayed signal of head
10. Such is effected by inverter 13 and adder 14, leaving as the remainder at output 15 the data of the desired track.
