Abstract

The narrow track width, high-density magnetic recording head utilizes a ferrite thin film bonded to a base material. Two pieces 10 and 11 of the base material, with the thin film 12 and 13 bonded on them, are themselves bonded end-to-end with platinum, gold or glass to form a narrow gap. The resultant unit 15 is bonded to a ferrite loop 16 with an adhesive allowing a continuous flux path from the loop through the edge of the ferrite film. Additionally, a backing plate 17 is used to provide better contact between the ferrite loop and the thin film and also to provide mechanical support. Backing plate 17 can be slotted so that the core winding encircles only the magnetic core.
