Paper Feeding Device

This device controls the vertical movement of a sheet of paper in a typewriter or similar business machine.

Shaft 10 is drivingly connected with the platen of typewriter 11 and rotates in a counterclockwise direction when the platen rotates to advance or vertically index the paper. The rotation of shaft 10 also causes movement of driving ratchet 13, disengaging ratchet 14 and support disk 15 due to the engagement of driving pawl 16 with ratchet 13. Ratchet 13 is rotatable with shaft 10. Ratchet 14 ad disk 15 are on shaft 10. Pawl 16 is carried by disk 15.

Rotation of shaft 10 causes winding of spiral spring 17 whose outer end is attached to a stationary member.

Carried on the opposite side of disk 15 and positioned by pin 18 is a removable ad replaceable program disk 19. This has a plurality of program holes 20 positioned at preselected circumferentially spaced locations adjacent its outer edge. Clamping disk 21, having a row of apertures 22 in it for receiving pin 18 ad mounting stop pin 23, is disposed adjacent disk 19. Clamp member 24 is employed to maintain the various disks in assembled relation.

Rotation shaft 10 causes movement of the apparatus until a sensing assembly comprising star wheel 25 senses the next aperture 20 in disk 19. Contacts are closed or linkage actuated to stop vertical indexing movement of the platen and the paper is positioned for printing as desired. After printing, indexing is resumed until wheel 25 engages the f...
