Connector for Complaint Copper Clad Card

A gold-plated wire makes contact to a flat gold tab on a compliant copper- clad card to achieve better contact forces.

Card 10 is a flexible printed circuit card made of copper-clad thermoplastic material and has flat gold contact tabs. Board 1 1 has contacts at each tab position comprising U-shaped, gold-plated wire 12 which is soldered at 13 to a land on the board. Wire 12 extends through aperture 14 and is soldered to a land on the other side of the board to additionally make a through connection. A crossed wire mode of contact between the flat contact tabs on card 10 and wire 12 on board 11 is provided by raised rib 16 on ground board 15. Air bladder 17 engages ground board 15 to supply contact pressure.

When the arrangement is used in a card capacitor read-only storage, there are opposing capacitor plate positions on card 10 and the surface of signal board 11 which also has a dielectric layer, not shown.
