Abstract

A portion of a balanced capacitor read-only store is shown in 1. Information is stored by pairs of L-shaped coupling elements overlaying the drive and sense conductors. The direction of sense current for a particular direction of drive current depends on the arrangement of the L-shaped coupling elements. The left-hand coupling arrangement is arbitrarily designated binary 1 and the right-hand arrangement binary 0.

A portion of a balanced capacitor read-only store is shown in 1. Information is stored by pairs of L-shaped coupling elements overlaying the drive and sense conductors. The direction of sense current for a particular direction of drive current depends on the arrangement of the L-shaped coupling elements. The left-hand coupling arrangement is arbitrarily designated binary 1 and the right- hand arrangement binary 0.

A way of producing the coupling elements is shown in 2. Here, rectangular- shaped conductive master layers 1, each having an H-shaped slot 2, are produced on insulating substrate 3. The spacing of masters 1 corresponds to the spacing of the storage locations defined by the drive and sense lines.

The limbs of slot 2 are made as narrow as possible, to maintain a large coupling area, and extend almost to the extremities of the master 1. One or the other of the two alternative L-shaped patterns are produced by punching master 1 in two places to extend diagonally opposite portions of slot 2 to the edge of master 1.
