Reed Switch Emitter

This emitter has a plurality of reed switches R, cylindrically disc placed, and an arm 1. This bears a magnetic shunt 2 and rotates about axis X'X.

With each reed switch is associated a permanent magnet such as 3 just facing the overlapping portion of the reed switch blades. A polar piece 4, made of soft iron, is located beside this magnet 3.

When shunt 2 passes in front of both magnet 3 and polar piece 4, magnetic flux from magnet 3 closes according to path F through the reed blades and turns on the switch.

In absence of shunt 2, the flux path is concentrated in the vicinity of magnet 3 and closes only through one blade. Then the switch is off. This system allows switching with a very small angular displacement. Consequently, the commutators are compact.
