Abrasion Resistant Urethane Foam

The following formulation is used to produce a sponge rubber which is flexible, has good wear resistance and high abrasive characteristics. Thus, it is suitable for use in the making of belts. The formulation is as follows:

Polyurethane ADIPRENE L*-100 100 parts by weight

MOCA* 11 parts by weight

Alundum or silicon carbide 50 parts by weight

The alundum or silicon carbide is mixed with the ADIPRENE L-100 and the MOCA is added to the resulting mixture. After mixing, the abrasive loaded polyurethane is degassed by vacuum and cured at 285 degrees F. for about an hour. *Trademarks of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Co.
