Abstract

Rotatable output shaft 10 has a pair of axially spaced ratchet wheels 11 and 12 fixed to it, as shown in A. Drive pawl 13 is pivotally supported in alignment with ratchet 11 by pivot pin 14 of vertical arm 15 of drive yoke 16. Drive pawl 17 is pivotally supported in alignment with ratchet 12 by pivot pin 18 of vertical arm 19 of drive yoke 20. Drive rods 21 and 22 are slidably supported on frame 23 with an end collected by pivot pins 24 and 25 to horizontal arms 26 and 27, respectively, of yokes 16 and 20. Cams 28 and 29 on rotatable shaft 30 drive and reciprocate rods 21 and 22 in unison to simultaneously oscillate yokes 16 and 20 and pawls 13 and 17 in opposite directions on shaft 10.

Drive pawl 13 is pivotally supported in alignment with ratchet 11 by pivot pin 14 of vertical arm 15 of drive yoke 16. Drive pawl 17 is pivotally supported in alignment with ratchet 12 by pivot pin 18 of vertical arm 19 of drive yoke 20. Drive rods 21 and 22 are slidably supported on frame 23 with an end collected by pivot pins 24 and 25 to horizontal arms 26 and 27, respectively, of yokes 16 and 20. Cams 28 and 29 on rotatable shaft 30 drive and reciprocate rods 21 and 22 in unison to simultaneously oscillate yokes 16 and 20 and pawls 13 and 17 in opposite directions on shaft 10.

Drive pawl 13 at one end has drive arm 31 and control arm 32 with slot 33 between them. Timing cam 34 which is thinner than arm 32 is formed on the inner edge proximate to its end to extend into slot 33. Similarly, pawl 17 is provided at one end with drive arm 35 and control arm 36 with slot 37. Timing cam 38 which extends into slot 37 is thinner than arm 36. On their other ends, pawls 13 and 17 are formed with upwardly extending retraction arms 39 and 40. These are co-operable with bail 41 on bell crank 42 to lift arms 13 and 17 out of engagement with ratchets 11 and 12 to permit free wheeling of shaft 10. Leaf springs 43 and 44 attached to frame 23 bias pawls 13 and 17 toward ratchets 11 and 12.
