Abstract

A balanced drive circuit comprises transistors T1 and T2 which are arranged to apply a drive current to drive line 1. T2 has its collector-emitter path connected between a +12V. and a +6V. terminal and to the input of line 1. The line 1 output end is connected through resistors 2 and 3 to similar potentials.

Balanced Drive Circuit

A balanced drive circuit comprises transistors T1 and T2 which are arranged to apply a drive current to drive line 1. T2 has its collector-emitter path connected between a +12V. and a +6V. terminal and to the input of line 1. The line 1 output end is connected through resistors 2 and 3 to similar potentials.

Under quiescent conditions, T1 and T2 are cut off and no current flows in line
1. When an input signal is applied to terminal 4, T1 and T2 are switched to a conducting condition to cause a current to flow in line 1.

The values of resistors 2 and 3 are equal to one half the characteristic impedance of line 1 in order to terminate it correctly. The value of resistor 5 is slightly smaller than that of resistor 6 in order to provide a balanced input to line 1 by compensating for the base current of T1.
