Abstract

The shift circuit contains X shift register 1, Y shift register 2, and Z register 3. As instructed by a separately generated shift parameter, the contents of Y shift register 2 can be shifted in either direction or circularly. In certain applications, X shift register 1 and Z register 3 are also affected.

Shift Register

The shift circuit contains X shift register 1, Y shift register 2, and Z register 3. As instructed by a separately generated shift parameter, the contents of Y shift register 2 can be shifted in either direction or circularly. In certain applications, X shift register 1 and Z register 3 are also affected.

When X shift register 1 takes part in the shift, the X and Y shift registers are effectively a single, long shift register. When Z register 3 takes part in the shift, a left shift causes data from the Z register to enter in parallel into the right portion of the Y shift register. The latter has been emptied by the left shift. A right shift causes data from the right portion of the Y shift register to enter in parallel into the right portion of the Z register before the right shift is accomplished.

This shift arrangement is extremely versatile, permitting various operations that are not generally available with conventional shift circuits.
