Abstract

In this magnetic read-write-erase transducer, read-write core A is provided with either a single or a bifilar coil and a read-write gap for longitudinal recording. Erase core B is positioned at right angles to core A. Core B is separated from core A by nonmagnetic shims C to establish an erase gap on each side of core A. The erase coil is energized during write operations to erase all fringing flux from the write gap plus previously written data at either edge of the data track. Since the erase flux is transverse to the written track of data, it provides a zero magnetic bias for subsequent read operations.
