Phosphoro and Arseno Fire Retardant Compositions

Fire retardant polymeric materials having either phosphorous or arsenic or both incorporated in the repeated skeletal chain are useful as SLT laminates.

A basic resin can be prepared by reacting either phosphoro or arseno analog or both analogs of bisphenol with epichlorhydrin to form either phosphoro or arseno or both containing epoxy resins according to the following:

Incorporation of the phosphoro or arseno groupings into the skeletal chain has the advantages of reducing the likelihood of cross linking where linear polymeric materials are preferred, of increasing the resistance to bases, and of increasing the resin's pot life because atmospheric hydrolysis is less likely to occur.
