Embossed Card to Storage Transfer Device

This device transfers data codally stored on a badge or card by embossments to a low-energy storage medium such as a chadless tape or the like.

In drawing A, a chadless tape is adapted to receive codally stored data at each of the index positions along the tape. Initially the chads are all placed in the reset position. When it is desired to transfer information from a badge to the tape, the card is placed over the tape with the data representing embossments in a downward direction.

A roller in passing over the card causes the embossments to force the chads at the corresponding index positions into a set or bit representing position as in drawing B. Subsequently the tape can be introduced into a tape sensing device for reading the stored data and transferring it to other utilization devices such as a data processor or the like.
