Keyboard Unit

The arrangement insures equal travel and equal fingertip pressure for a keyboard unit.

A top elevation is in A and a left side elevation in B. Each keybutton 1 rides on a key lever 3 for tripping an associated trip lever to select a character. Each keybutton 1 is mounted for depression between frame 2 and an associated key lever 3 for tripping a related trip lever 4. Key levers 3 are retained in operating position by a guide comb 5 and have apertures 3a and 3b pivotally associated with guide rods 6 and 7, respectively. Adjustably mounted with comb 5 is retaining plate 8 and spring comb 9.

Retaining plate 8 has stepped portions 8a and 8b extending in supporting relation to the spring comb 9 extensions 9a and 9b that are associated with the individual key levers 3. The stepped portions 8a and 8b are calculated on the basis of a progressive nonlinear pattern for increasing or decreasing spring pressure depending on the relative locations of the buttons with respect to their related key levers 3.
