Automatic Screw Machine Part Counter

The system counts the number of parts produced by an automatic screw machine and transmits a pulse for each part made into a data collection system. The counting system comprises a cycle switch, a stock entry switch, and a key- set predetermining counter including an electrical gate.

The counter is set to the maximum number of parts that can be produced from a bar of stock. The cycle switch, each time it is actuated, decrements the counter one unit, and, by the open gate, transmits a cycle pulse to the data collection system. When the counter is decremented to zero, the gate is closed and further count transmission is inhibited.

At this time, the counter can actuate an optional alert light. This signals the operator that the machine is cutting air and a new bar of stock is needed. When the operator places a new bar of stock in the machine, the motion of raising feed tube 10 actuates a stock entry switch attached to tube 10 to reset the counter so that the counting cycle can be repeated.
