Magnetic Masking of Ferrous Magnetic Parts for Spray or Dip Coating

Portions of a ferrous-magnetic part to be sprayed or dip coated are covered by a removable mask made of magnetic tape.

Housing part 10 has side edges 11 and top portion 12 to be masked before spray or dip coating. Masks 13 and 14 are made of magnetic tape 15, adhesive coated on one side, adhered to template 16. The masks readily cling to part 10 and can be easily assembled and removed for re-use.

Furthermore, the masks can be removed prior to drying or curing. This yields a smooth coating edge rather than a ragged broken edge commonly encountered when the coating is allowed to dry prior to removing the masking material.
