Abstract

In this switch-core-controlled core storage matrix addressing arrangement, the memory cycle is shortened. Such is effected by assuring that, except when transferring from a units 9 to 0, different switch cores and hence storage cores are always selected on successive cycles. That is, no storage core has either of its two select lines energized on two succeeding storage cycles.

In this switch-core-controlled core storage matrix addressing arrangement, the memory cycle is shortened. Such is effected by assuring that, except when transferring from a units 9 to 0, different switch cores and hence storage cores are always selected on successive cycles. That is, no storage core has either of its two select lines energized on two succeeding storage cycles.

An 8-point memory cycle in drawing A is shortened to a 6-point cycle in drawing B. This is realized by extending the matrix reset two cycle points into the next clock cycle, resetting the data register two cycle points later, and providing separate and alternate sets and resets for the odd and even switch cores. A units addressing ring, not shown, is a 5-position closed-loop ring representing ten units addresses. A tens addressing ring is a four-position closed-loop ring A, B C, D in combination with E representing four tens addresses.

The addressing sequence in drawing C for both transfer and service cycles shows that the units address ring advances every clock cycle. The tens E trigger changes every clock cycle except when the units address changes from 9 to 0. The tens ring advances when the units ring address changes from 9 to 0 and the tens E trigger is off.

Every units 9 time an 8-point, instead of 6-point, cycle must be taken for two reasons. Such assures that only one tens bias, not shown, will change during reset. Such also prevents overlap of reset and s...
