Abstract

The tabulate function is provided on a high-speed serial printer. Read-write head 10 is arranged to place suitable magnetic spots on a coating. of ferromagnetic material on a belt 12. This is driven by motor 14 to move print head 16 along the print line. These marks are then detected by head 10 during the printing operation. The marks are used to provide the tab functions through amplifier 18 and controls 20 for the print head motor.
