Abstract

This technique reduces the gap-to-gap spacing between cores in a multi-element head. This is effected without reducing the cross-sectional area of the adjacent legs of the cores. Instead of aligning the cores along a line parallel to the direction of travel of the recording medium, the two cores are positioned along parallel lines. These lie at acute angles with the direction of travel of the medium. With this arrangement the desired core-to-core spacing is retained while the gap-to-gap spacing is reduced. The gaps are oriented perpendicular to the direction of travel of the medium or to the sides of the core as desired.
