Abstract

A helical record member 37 is secured to a sleeve 31 having threaded bulkhead portions 33 arranged to cooperate with the threads of a fixed spindle 19. Rotation of splined shaft 25 by motor 29 causes sleeve 31 to rotate and move longitudinally along shaft 25. Cam 61 and follower 59 cause a magnetic transducer attached to arm 53 to move in a substantially radial path 39 along the surface of helical member 37.

Data Storage Configuration

A helical record member 37 is secured to a sleeve 31 having threaded bulkhead portions 33 arranged to cooperate with the threads of a fixed spindle

Motor 29 is controlled for left or right rotation by switch 85 which in turn, is controlled by a mechanism 79. The latter computes the number of tracks between the desired track and the track at that time under the transducer. This number of track computation is fed through address register 77 to compare unit
75. This also receives an input from the control circuit 73 of a photocell arrangement 47 which produces pulses by the marks 45 as disk 43 is rotated by motor 29. When the desired track is located, solenoid 91 is energized by compare unit 75. This operates the detent 93. Switch 89 disconnects motor 29 from ground.
