An oscillating light conductor scans a stationary document which reflects light to a fixed photocell via an oscillating mirror.

Light from the Light Source and the Reflector is directed through an internally totally reflective Light Conductor to the surface of a Document. This is mounted on a stationary cylindrical support, not shown. The light reflected from the illuminated portion of the surface of the document is reflected by a Mirror and directed via a Lens and a Chopper to a Photocell. The Mirror is mounted on a Shaft which oscillates through an angle alpha.

The Light Source and the Light Conductor are mounted on a support. Such is driven by a gear drive so as to oscillate through an angle 2 alpha around the Shaft. The optical distances between the Light Source and the surface of the Document and between the Document and the Photocell are constant during the scan.
