Positive and Mirror Image Artwork

This is a process for providing a single piece of artwork which can be used for both positive and mirror-image printed circuit manufacture.

At A, a cross-section of a photographic film is shown having emulsion layers 2 and 4 coated on transparent base material 6. Any image which is exposed on emulsion 2 is likewise exposed on emulsion 4 but with a mirror-image of that on emulsion 2. Thus, as shown at B, if such a double emulsion film is exposed to light which is projected through a transparent master circuit drawing 8, the true image of the circuit appears on emulsion 2 and the reverse image on emulsion 4.

Once the double emulsion film has been developed, it can be used to expose true and reverse images on opposite sides of a circuit board by allowing the emulsion side to bear directly on the circuit board with a resultant sharpness of line definitions regardless of which image is produced.
