This circuit permits a CRT spot to follow an optical mask on which is recorded NRZ data without excessive spot drift in areas for which there are few or no changes in data value.

The video, i.e., phototube output (wave B), is peak detected (wave D) and the peaked output is inverted (wave C). The logical Or of the video signal and the inverted peaked signal (wave E) and the logical And of the video signal and the peaked signal (wave F) individually charge a capacitor through oppositely- poled diodes. The capacitor voltage is utilized to servo control the CRT deflection coil. The standard capacitor voltage E(COMPARE) is chosen (wave G) so that the spot homes at the mask O-value demarkation line (graph H).
