Abstract

This silk screen has improved wearing qualities over the usual screen comprising metal members having a polyvinyl chloride plastic coating on them. Metal screen 10 comprising metal members 12 is adapted to control the application of a paste material, not shown, onto a suitable surface, not shown. Members 12 are coated with polyvinyl chloride plastic 14 to establish the definition of the pattern desired to be screened onto the surface. Plastic 14 is etched in the areas in which openings 18 are desired.

Improved Silk Screen Mask

This silk screen has improved wearing qualities over the usual screen comprising metal members having a polyvinyl chloride plastic coating on them. Metal screen 10 comprising metal members 12 is adapted to control the application of a paste material, not shown, onto a suitable surface, not shown. Members 12 are coated with polyvinyl chloride plastic 14 to establish the definition of the pattern desired to be screened onto the surface. Plastic 14 is etched in the areas in which openings 18 are desired.

Openings 18 describe the pattern to be silk screened onto a surface. The wear qualities of plastic 14 are improved by the addition of high tensile strength, small diameter and short length fibers 16 which provide tenacity to the coating particularly at the edges. Fibers 16 can be, e.g., tungsten, glass or quartz. They are combined with plastic 14 prior to the coating of members 12.

Fibers 16 are removed from openings 18 in screen 10 by etching in acid vapors or similar solutions. Members 12, with the addition of shortfibers 16, improve resistance to wear due to the abrading of metal-glaze resistor and conductive compositions screened through the openings.
