Magnetic Tape

Magnetic tape, comprising polyethylene terephthalate resin layer 5 and magnetizable oxide or ferromagnetic layer 6, has an antistatic coating 7 to limit build-up of static electricity in the tape, when driven at high speed.

Coating 7 comprises a dispersion of 18% to 35% by volume of conductive chaining acetylene black particles in a polyethylene terephthalate binder. A proportion of silica aerogel is added to give the coating a suitable coefficient of friction for rapid tape starting and stopping.
