An Order Entry Device and System

The optical punched card reading device has a slotted hand-held member 10 which can be drawn along the length of a card.

On one side of slot 11 are two photocells 12 and 13. On the other side there are two miniature lamps 14 and 15. The reader is slipped over a card so that an edge of the card is inserted in the slot 11.

The edge of the card rests against point 16 so as to properly position the photocells and lamps at appropriate rows of the card. As the reader is drawn along the card, pulses are generated by the photocells corresponding to the coded information contained in the two rows being read.
